We are a small team attempting to make a world of difference. Our site isn't the first of its kind and we are in no way competing against sites that are similar to ours. The Internet is a big place. If someone stumbles upon our site and we can provide them with the information they are looking for, our mission will be accomplished.
Money, while important in the world we live in, isn't something we are going to wave in front of our site's visitors. Our brand is important to us which means means you'll never see an advertisement on our site and we will never sell any information collected through our online portals. Of course, we are open to fundraisers and gracious sponsors/donations that will allow us to help pay for our operational costs but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, suicides in the US have increased significantly in the last few years. In 2018 alone, nearly 45,000 American's ages 10+ have taken their own lives. The CDC reports that suicide is the 10th leading cause of death. Source»
It is because of this information that we feel it is absolutely vital for us to always display the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline for all visitors to our site. We also are building out our own resource library for both national and local resources to help our site's visitors.
theguide.lgbt is not created by us for you; it is created by you, for all. We aspire to serve as a reputable guide to the LGBT* community, and at our core, provide a positive outlook for the future.
